Philosophy

Shirley Robertson Children’s Centre acknowledges the Wurundjeri people on whose land we are situated and aims to build understanding of and embed First Nations perspectives, culture and histories in all our work.

Shirley Robertson Children’s Centre welcomes all children and their families. We work to ensure all families and children feel equally valued, respected and cared for, contributing to a positive sense of wellbeing for all. As a community organisation SRCC encourages participation from and in the community, and actively engages with the local community.

Children

Every child has rights.

Every child is unique.

Each child’s views and voice are valued and taken into consideration in collaborative decision-making.

Every individual child grows and learns at their own pace and our programming and documentation is based on children’s strengths, interests and abilities, to encourage a love of learning.

Families

We value each child’s family and their importance to their child/ren and encourage them to engage in the activities, learning, and the various avenues of support for the centre.

We work to develop mutually respectful and engaging relationships with and between families, where parents/guardians/carers and educators share a common goal in supporting their child/ren’s growth, development, and learning.

We work to ensure all children and families feel safe, secure and supported at SRCC.

Learning

We provide a safe, stimulating, emergent style of curriculum planning, guided by ‘Belonging, Being and Becoming’, the National Early Years Learning Framework. This strengthens each child’s sense of Identity, connectedness to the world around them, and their wellbeing. Children’s interests are at the forefront of our education program, and we believe that children learn through play that fosters their curiosity, enjoyment and confidence. We support their development as confident and involved learners, with good communication skills.

We encourage understanding and respect for all forms of diversity and celebrate this throughout our centre.

Environment

We strive to create indoor and outdoor environments that are natural, inviting, inclusive and rich with possibilities for learning. We teach children about loving nature, respecting the environment and work to implement environmentally friendly practices, contributing to a sustainable future.

Staff

SRCC educators are committed to the care, education and wellbeing of each child, and we value each member of our team’s pedagogical understanding, skills, creativity, professionalism and dedication to the centre. We pride ourselves on ensuring each educator is well resourced in both time and materials to implement high quality educational programs and encouraged to undertake further learning and education.

Access and inclusion

We work to make sure that Disability is not a barrier for children, families and staff enjoying the nurturing environment of SRCC. We celebrate diversity, and all families have the right of equal access to our centre. We work to make SRCC a positive, enjoyable, and accessible experience for everyone.

Fun

We want children to enjoy their time at the centre, and to experience laughter, friendship, excitement and love, and the fun of learning.
