Programs at SRCC
Here at SRCC we use the ‘Walker Learning Approach’ to plan, observe, reflect, implement and evaluate our program and your Childrens learning journals.
What is the ‘Walker Learning Approach’?
The Walker Learning Approach is revolutionising early childhood and primary teaching approaches through an evidence based pedagogy. It provides an authentic personalised learning model of teaching and learning that is effective across all cultural, economical, geographical, religious and social spectrums. The pedagogy uses developmentally appropriate ways of helping to engage children in meaningful and relevant strategies that enhance academic skills alongside social and emotional development.
Program Planning
The educators have program planning for three hours every week. In this time they enter observations taken on the children into developmental records which are written in clinical note form on what they have observed. Each educator has their allocated focus children whom every week plan specific activities for to scaffold their learning on a particular interest or skill. This also helps educators to identify skills that the child may need help in developing or strengthening.
Learning Journals
Each child's SRCC journey is recorded in a dedicated folio for each child to take home at the end of the year. Parents and carers may access the journals at any stage throughout the year upon request to the educators in your child/ren rooms.
Play Based Wall Plan/Program
Each room has a wall plan. You may have seen this displayed either inside or outside their room. This is how we plan for your children. Our program is play based and comes from your child’s interests. These plans are located in different areas in each room but are generally displayed either inside or outside the rooms.
Information on these programs consists of:

Goals for the children and the room as a whole

Outlines the experiences that are offered for the children

A reflection section for educators to write spontaneous experiences and emergent interests of the children

Parent contribution section which has taken the place of the communication books

Community and centre upcoming events, incursions/excursions etc

Daily Reflection Boards
Each room has a reflection board on which educators write ‘Something we experienced’ and ‘Something we learnt’ for that day .The staff then take a photo of it at the end of the week and place it into a folder next to the sign in book. This way parents who have been on holidays or away can read and catch up on what has been happening in the room.
